There are different types of language certification for Italian as a second language or as a foreign language. For official purposes, such as requesting a residence card or enrollment at the University, it is recommended only refer to the CLIQ organization recognized. CLIQ is the Italian Language Consortium of Quality created at the request of the MIM to promote the exams of the most prestigious organizations.

It is the certificate of Italian as a Foreign Language, it’s the official certification of the University for Foreigners of Siena. It is possible to take the CILS from level A1 to level C2. For long-term residence permit applicants is the CILS A2 integration in Italy.
It is the Certificate of Knowledge of the Italian Language, official certification of the University for Foreigners of Perugia. It is possible to take the CELI from level A2 (CELI 1) to level C2 (CELI 5). For long-term residence permit applicants is CELI 1
The Certification Office of the Roma Tre University is a certifying body of the Italian language recognized by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Education, University and Research. The structure deals with the design, implementation, administration and evaluation of the certification tests of Italian as a foreign language (L2).
The Office develops five examination systems relating to five levels of competence identified by the Council of Europe in the Common European Framework of Reference. The systems are adequate to the relative level of competence of the CEFR and propose situations of use of Italian that are authentic. Based on the outcome of the tests taken by the candidates the Certification Office issues the relevant certificates of competence in Italian as a foreign language (L2).
