Stati Generali of the Italian Language

The “Stati Generali della Lingua Italiana 2018” were held on 22nd and 23rd October 2018 in Rome. The theme chosen for the third edition: "Italian on the Net, the Network for Italians". Organized and commissioned by the MAECI - Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation - the works opened with a greeting from Minister Moavero Milanesi on 22 October at the premises of Villa Madama, a beautiful historic villa located on the slopes of Monte Mario.

In the opening session of the works, in addition to the intervention of Minister Moavero, the intervention of the Minister of MIUR - Ministry of Education, University and Research by dr. Bussetti followed by speeches by Dr. Riccardi, President of the Dante Alighieri Society, by Prof. Claudio Marazzina, President of the Crusca Academy and by Dr. Kessler, Ambassador of the Swiss confederation in Italy.

At the end of the speeches, the video promoted by the MAECI was projected: "L'italiano in Rete, Le rete per l'Italiano".

In the first Plenary Session, a round table was scheduled: "Italian on the Web and in social media".

During the interventions of the first plenary session, the guests brought contributions and examples on how the network (internet) is already used for learning a foreign language and more specifically in learning Italian as a foreign language.

Representatives from the institutional and academic world took part in the second plenary session, with the theme: "Italian networks in the world". In this second session the physical networks, the didactic-institutional presences present abroad were examined. Italian in Italy made its contribution with the honorary member Hammadi Agrebi, Inspector General and Trainer of Italian Teachers in Tunisia, who focused on the difficulty of promoting the Italian language in Tunisia in the face of the few public funds provided and the importance of this work for the Italian state, a heartfelt and passionate speech:

With the closure of the plenary sessions, the event moved to Palazzo Firenze at the headquarters of the Dante Alighieri Society.

On 23 October, a small delegation of participants in the previous day's work were received by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, at the Quirinale premises.
