Long-term courses
You can get a study visa (type D) by enrolling in a language course. To apply for a visa the chosen school and course must have specific requirements. The Italian course to attend must include at least 20 lessons per week and be proposed by a school accredited by the MIUR. The duration of the visa application process can be up to 20 working days, therefore you should register for the Italian course at least 45 days before the application in order to have all the documents
How to apply for a study visa
Requests should be made by the student’s home country through an appointment with the embassy/consulate. It is possible to fix an on line appointment and download the documents (in addition to additional information on school and accommodation) needed to be presented on the day of the appointment. From the visa application to the day of the appointment can increase from 3 to 31 days (depending on the number of requests received).

From the Italian school with the invoice of the payment and the documents attesting the reliability of the school (you can use the documents for the intensive courses of 6 months (24 weeks).
How the study visa works in Italy
The study visa in Italy can be renewed from within the country. The renewal procedure must begin 30 days before the visa expires. If you obtain your visa through an Italian language course, your visa can only be renewed in the following cases:
